Green Packaging Star Award 2017

The latest innovation to come out of the VPZ Verpackungszentrum, the PACKNATUR® ORGANIC WINEGLASS LABELS, have been awarded the GREEN PACKAGING STAR AWARD 2017, entitling them to take part in the WORLD STAR PACKAGING AWARDS 2018.

Packnatur® Organic Wineglass Labels are made from 100% renewable raw materials and are completely biodegradable. After a 3-year development phase in collaboration with IM Polymer GmbH, Lenzing Plastics and the vegetable growers’ association Marchfeldgemüse, the VPZ Verpackungszentrum has brought out a new organic compound material for packaging labels – made from cellulose paper and organic film – to complement their compostable Packnatur® cellulose net packaging that has been successfully used by leading Austrian supermarket chains for the past 4 years. All raw materials are either biogenic or of mineral origin, and are compostable. Products are also free from thermal paper, which is hotly debated due to the current issue surrounding bisphenol A. The EAN code and batch number are printed onto the Packnatur® Organic Wineglass Labels using thermal transfer printing (carbon ribbon). The new Packnatur® Organic Wineglass Labels are just about to be launched on the market. Packaging plants in Austria, Germany and Luxembourg have successfully tested the new labels. This innovation brings VPZ one step nearer to replacing synthetic packaging with green solutions.
